Buzz Rickson Pattern-1941 USMC Utility Trousers, First Model
Developed in 1941 for the USMC as part of a two-piece coat/trouser suit for combat and work, replacing the denim suits of earlier issue, the 1941-Pattern Herringbone Twill (HBT) Utility Trousers became the definitive combat trouser for the USMC in WWII. The original design featured external patch pockets on the front thighs, which were replaced with internally hung pockets in a later design that first is seen in combat in early 1944, thus the first-model trouser is far more rare and the only correct HBT trouser for the USMC prior to 1944, though these early trousers can still be seen in use in 1945.
Buzz Rickson brand is the only current manufacturer of the first-model trousers on the market at this time, and they have duplicated these trousers to their usual high level of quality and authenticity, including having the all-cotton, light-shade HBT fabric made on vintage looms and sewing the trousers using all-cotton thread on vintage sewing machines, with all stress points correctly bar tacked for extra strength. Additionally, the trousers are outfitted with black-lacquered USMC buttons and they have been given an industrial cold-water rinse to minimize shrinkage and provide greater softness and a look of vintage appeal rather than a rigid, out-of-the-box new look. Buzz Rickson military trousers are intended for hard, active use and long life; these are uniform items, NOT costumery.

Buzz Rickson U. S. Army Trousers, Wind Resistant (First-Model Vietnam Jungle Trousers)
The master designers at Buzz Rickson's have recreated a GI classic made famous in the early years of the Vietnam War; officially known as "Trousers, wind Resistant," these formed the bottom half of the 1st-model jungle suit. This is the highly desirable, rare 1st model made of poplin with exposed gloss-finished buttons and outfitted with leg ties hidden in the cargo pockets, as worn during the early days in Nam, though sometimes seen still being worn even at war's end. This style clearly had its design rooted in the WWII U. S. Army parachutist's trousers, though issue of these trousers was to all troops and not specific. The trousers were made instantly recognizable and famous in the 1967 film "The Green Berets," prominently worn by John Wayne and the rest of the cast portraying members of the 5th Special Forces while "in country."
The overall design is incredibly practical, stylish, and so very functional in many capacities, thanks to the expandable cargo pockets with drain holes. Combat attrition, post-service life among the veterans, sales in surplus stores for hunters, fisherman, and the like, plus relatively low production numbers before they were replaced by the 2nd model, rendered the 1st-model trousers scarce not long after the events of the era; today, vintage examples in new condition will fetch a hefty price in the collector market.
No design detail has been missed on this Buzz Rickson's copy, which includes custom manufacturing of the lightweight all-cotton poplin on vintage looms to perfectly match U. S. Army specs., including assembly using vintage industrial sewing machines. The buttons have also been custom made of genuine urea, not incorrect, cheap plastic, and inside the jacket you'll find all of the authentic labels that appeared on these early trousers, making this the ultimate copy of an all-time classic. Of course, this Buzz Rickson's trouser copy comes crispy new and unwashed, so if you don't want to look like some FNG who just got in from the World, you'll want to wash them a few times before wearing.
The only other 1st-model "jungle trousers" to match the precision of Buzz Rickson's masterpiece are those prized, vintage examples in collections and veteran's attics. Please note all of these authentic features and details:
• Two expandable, bellows pockets outfitted with exposed buttons
• Custom manufacturing of genuine, gloss-finished urea buttons precisely matching the buttons of the 1st-Model trousers
• Button-down pocket flaps on butt pockets
• Two-position adjustment tabs at waist-back area
• Custom manufacturing of the exact weight and weave all-cotton, water-repellant poplin produced on vintage looms
• Custom manufacturing of the exact type of all-cotton labels found on 1st-Model trousers
• Hidden compass pocket inside left cargo pocket
• Leg tapes inside each cargo pocket
• Drawstring at the leg cuff opening of each leg
• Concealed buttons on frontal closure
• Internal flap with buttons behind frontal closure

Buzz Rickson’s ARVN Golden Tiger-Stripe Camouflage Trousers
"Tiger-Stripe” camouflage uniforms were developed in Southeast Asia in the early 1960’s and issued to military forces, most notably, special forces of the Army of the Republic of Viet-Nam (ARVN). When the U. S. Army began sending military advisors to assist the ARVN and its related government and other military forces, the U. S. Army had no camouflage uniforms of their own, thus they were given permission to wear the camouflage uniforms of the ARVN units to which they were attached or assigned. The style of trousers seen here became known as the "Advisor" pattern, due to its early association with these personnel.
This “Advisor” pattern became the typical tiger-stripe camouflage uniform worn by U. S. forces, though the coloring of the camouflage and the shape and density of the camouflage pattern itself led to a multitude of varieties as identified by collectors today, one of the rarest and most desirable being this specific bright-shade of golden-hued pattern now called “Golden Tiger.”
“Advisor” jackets and trousers have been prominently featured in films depicting the war in Viet-Nam, the most notable include: “The Green Berets” with John Wayne, “The Deer Hunter” with Robert De Niro, and “Apocalypse Now” with Martin Sheen,” naming but a few. Eventually, the exotic nature of the “Tiger” camouflage and its association with elite Special Forces and personnel of authority, power, and those having seen combat, spawned a huge demand for even more tiger-stripe camo. uniforms, as anyone seen wearing this camo. pattern in “Nam” was considered “hot stuff." Today, vintage tiger-stripe camo. from the Viet-Nam war is very rare, highly collectible, and very costly to purchase, as well as being just plain cool looking, making a perfect summer-weight trouser for wear with tee shirts and sneakers.
Buzz Rickson’s, a brand highly respected worldwide for its pursuit of fanatical, penultimate authenticity, has recreated the “Advisor” trousers in this new color shade of “Golden Tiger” coloring that is commonly associated with ARVN use. Never before has this camo. pattern been recreated to such an amazing degree of authenticity, including the employment of vintage shuttle looms to generate true selvage fabric as was used to fabricate the vintage sets in the 1960’s and early 1970’s, vintage-type dyes to craft the screen-printed colors and patterns of the camo. pattern, and vintage button dies to make genuine urea buttons that precisely match those typically encountered on the “Advisor” sets. And to preclude you from looking like some “FNG” who just purchased a set of “Tiger” camo. while in Ben Hoa, Buzz Rickson’s “Golden Tiger” comes in a one-wash finish, giving it a very slightly faded vintage appearance that deftly matches the coloring and overall “been-there” look observed on vintage sets.
Please note these authentic features and details found only on a genuine Buzz Rickson’s “Golden Tiger” “Advisor” trousers of this pedigree:
- Two two-button bellows butt and leg pockets
- Compass/lighter pocket on leg
- Bar tack reinforcements on all major stress points
- Double-stitched seams throughout
- Two-button tab at waist to allow for decreasing the waist size
- Custom manufacturing of genuine urea buttons (not cheap plastic) produced on vintage dies that precisely match the size and shape of those observed on vintage ARVN “Advisor” trousers
- Custom manufacturing of all-cotton twill selvage fabric produced on the original, narrow shuttle looms of the type employed to produce this fabric in the 1960’s and 1970’s
- Precise matching to vintage examples of ARVN bright “Golden Tiger”
- Screen printing of one of the most typical tiger-stripe patterns to a high level of precision using vintage-type dyes to re-create the rare, highly desired “Golden Tiger” bright color shade, then washed once for a “been-there” look of an “In-Country” veteran
- Exact copy of the original-style printed-on-cotton size label
- Asian“A” prefix ink stamping with the size, thus denoting a distinction between trousers of the same size but in a different size grade from those for U. S. forces. This is a cosmetic feature ONLY for the purpose of authentic appearance, and the fit of these trousers does NOT at all correspond with the original diminutive sizing found on the trousers actually made in Asian sizes.
Sizes available: Sm. - XL, fitting up to 38" waist measure. Please see our SIZING TIPS for advice on how to get the correct fit.

Eastman USAAF A-3 Flying Trousers
Flying at frigid high altitudes called for a special item of clothing to keep American airmen warm. The Army Air Corps designed the A-3 Flying Trousers, companion item to the B-3 Flying Jacket, with this exact purpose in mind. A-3 Flying Trousers were actually ordered by the Army Air Force with the B-3 Flight Jacket as a two-piece suit, not as a separate item; for every B-3 Flight Jacket that was made, there was a respective pair of A-3 Trousers. Constructed from the same materials as the jacket, they were designed to be worn with the B-3 Flight Jacket in extremely low temperatures.
Eastman Leather decided to recreate Army Air force history and make available, once again, the Type A-3 Winter Flying Trousers for the flying clothing enthusiast. Lovingly crafted with deft precision from high-quality North American sheepskin, these A-3s match the original item to the finest detail, including authentic zippers that run the entire length of the leg. Since these represent wartime A-3s, they are dyed dark brown on vegetable-tanned sheepskin, fully trimmed with Havana Brown Horsehide (Seal Brown Horsehide by request), authentic A-3 woven label, correct-width all-cotton webbing suspenders that have the authentic white underside, and reproduction 1942 nickel-plated Talon zippers, all of which make these another must for your flying-gear collection. Interestingly, A-3 Trousers actually require a greater square footage of sheepskin material to produce than a jacket, so they are priced accordingly, but we've endeavored to keep these as affordable as possible.

WWII U. S. Army/AAF Officer’s “Pink” Drab Shade 54 Trousers
Our U. S. Army/USAAF Officers' “Pink” Drab Shade 54 Trousers will take you back to a time when true gentleman’s outfitters, with creaking floorboards and the smell of new cloth and polished oak shelves, could be found on your downtown’s main street, and a proper tailor dressed in a suit and tie and with a tape measure around his neck served you – “Suits you, sir!”
An officer serving in the U. S. Army of the 1940s was not issued much in the way of clothing. Officers received a clothing allowance stipend as part of their monthly pay and this was to be used to privately purchase uniforms from the base clothing store or quartermaster, off-base commercial shops or to engage a tailor for custom making of one’s uniform.
During the height of World War II, dozens of American commercial clothing manufacturers produced officer-grade trousers for purchase. All of these trousers had to meet a standard specification accepted by the U. S. Army, hence the term ‘Regulation’ Army Trousers. But where there was latitude in the standard regulation, such as the specific shape of pocket flaps, fly closure, belt loop configuration, etc., each of the commercial uniform makers each had their own design. One detail common to all of the officer trousers of the 1940s is the fabulous quality of the all-wool elastique fabric, which was specified by the U. S. Army. Our reproduction trousers are made to be worn and used regularly and to function in a demanding, military environment, just as the original trousers were and unlike the typical costume-grade trousers on the market, which are best suited for those who may only need to wear these trousers for dress-up a handful of times in their life.
We have had the heavy-weight, all-wool elastique made following the original military specs. culled from archival repositories. Officers' 'elastique' trousers (alternatively known as 'Cavalry Twill' to many) are just superb, unlike anything you’ll find even in the best men's shops today; the average weight per pair is 2lbs! The drape, handle and color of our elastique is absolutely indistinguishable from the original, too. The best features found on the best-made original vintage trousers have been incorporated on our trousers. From the satin-lined waistband to the fine elastique, these trousers are so accurate you’ll think you’ve stepped back into a 1940s military post exchange.
Dress like a true West Pointer with a pair of these and just look sharp! Check out these authentic features:
• Copy of original maker’s label design produced on a vintage shuttle loom • Custom manufacturing of authentic 1940s-spec. two-ply, four-season, heavy, all-wool elastique, not a cheap and inaccurate poly-wool blend
• Custom manufacturing of authentic satin rayon lining for waistband area • Authentic urea buttons
• Security waistband tab
• Wear-resistant reinforcement at ankle cuff
•Three-inch inseam turn-up
• Hidden, gentleman’s waistband pocket
• Authentic zipper fly
• High-quality, dense-weave durable pocket linings in 100% Cotton • 100% cotton-thread assembly
